Great post;thank you. I was fortunate to attend approx. 350 GD/Jerry Band/Hunter shows. I've written here before how there were moments -- some longer than others--- during almost every show where everything became crystal clear for me --- clean, pure moments -- and I have a few specific shows that I treasure more thank others, however I have a "Soul Song."
ON Feb. 1, 1981 I was admitted once again into a hospital for "an extended period of time." I explained to the entire staff of physicians, nurses, janitors that nothing - absolutely nothing --was going to stand in my way of seeing the Garcia Band six nights later on Feb, s 7, 1981.(It was going to be the first time I saw him since I was unexpectedly hospitalized the previous summer at the Solstice Shows in Alaska.) The physicians and nurses laughed and scoffed at the idea as I reminded them each day...........until they discovered my hopsital-issued "bracelet" taped to the door and I was AWOL on Sat night, Feb. 7, 1981.
I cannot remember anything about the first show. For the second show I discovered I had a fourth row seat in front of Jerry. The show began and a very kind young woman passed a very kind herbal treat to me.
Fourth song, second show: Mission in the Rain. With my eyes closed, out of nowhere I was presented with a vision and a revelation of The Mission in the Rain.

Thank you for providing the opportunity for a few embers of that experience to rekindle as I wrote about it. Unlike your experience this evening, the recorded versions I have heard do not reflect the experience. It brings me tremendous joy to know that you have been able to drink from that fountain this evening. === AshesRising

Great story , The Mission is one of my favorite JGB songs also. Glad I was able to reignite some of your great memories and stories. I'm still glowing from last nights experience.
